For years, those of us in the insurance business who sought to put our clients first called ourselves “Brokers”. Now the term Broker is really a misnomer, for we are in fact – from a legal standpoint Agents.

Would you like to know more about PEO’s? Professional Employer Organizations act as a kind of co-employer. They handle the legal stuff, like Work Comp, remitting tax withholdings, dealing with the EDD, etc. They are, in fact, the employer of “your” employees.

There are a couple of facts worth noting …

1. You as the business owner do not give up control.
2. The employees do not lose income or benefits. In fact, usually they gain things as these organizations can do things for them that you simply cannot do.
3. You (often) save money on insurance costs, work comp, etc.

One seemingly small benefit worth noting is that most employers simply do not have a company handbook that is very good, and many do not have one at all. Working with a Professional co-employer, this is solved. What may seem like a small thing, could save you a considerable amount of money.
